As an introvert, teaching is often exhausting. I spent the last three days trying to "jolly along" my students--who didn't seem willing to interact much. Are they afraid of contradicting me? I definitely don't need to be talking non-stop for three full work days....
I added some new practical exercises to apply what they learned, and somehow I managed to still wrap up the class on time. As in earlier classes at least one person was multi-tasking, so I ended up asking them questions to re-engage them. I'm mean like that.
Birthday Fishes
This week is milestone week. I've celebrated my birthday (sort of) and today is my anniversary. My birthday was pretty much a non-event. No cake, no party, no dinner out, no gathering of friends. I got some cards from my sweetie and the kitties, and the remainder of the celebratory part of it seems to have been a couple dozen well-wishes on MyLiveFaceDiaryBookJournalLandWitter (for which I am grateful). My sweetie did get me an early birthday present at Dragon*Con, and it was something I wasn't likely to buy for myself.
I'm not sure what the plan is for today. There are cards for my sweetie from me and from the kitties, and I did get her a cute present--that I still need to wrap.
High Cost of Living
And prices keep going up and up and up. I see the gooberment allowed the local electrical utility to increase their rates another 10% (meaning that our energy costs have increased by 30% over the last few years. I find this annoying because the utility is already making a profit and not improving their service.... We are MOST displeased
The second kick in the pants is the discovery that we should replace our upstairs A/C unit and the coils. I guess I now know what we are buying for our anniversary present to ourselves.... Because the need for A/C is winding down, we may consider postponing that expense until next year--at the end of winter or in early spring. The estimate on the replacement actually isn't that bad, but it is still way more than a few years' worth of paying home warranty insurance premiums.
Bah! Humbug!
Prisoner Fu
We watched the first episode of The Prisoner last night. The original series, not the reboot. Ignatius slept through most of it. He has developed a new routine of hopping up onto the table. He then makes a "pillow" by gathering up some of the rag rug we use as a runner to protect the table top. And then he flops down on it and begins snoring. After the episode, we looked at some of the extras on the DVD, and Ignatius woke up. For some reason, he was fascinated by the end-title sequence depicting a pennyfarthing bicycle being constructed. He would attentively turn his head as each piece was added.
