Once I got past the usual jam of people where the two Interstates intersect with entrance and exit ramps designed for Model Ts, the drive home (and this morning's commute into the office) were extraordinarily void of fellow commuters. I took great delight in not having to worry about aggressive idiots. I'm guessing a lot of families have headed Somewhere Else to celebrate the end of the local school year. What a stark contrast to the previous day's vexatious commute. Can we get it to happen more often?
More Lacerations Fu
Four a.m. this morning. Josie decides she needs to achieve escape velocity by using my hip as a launch pad. She left her landing gear engaged again, and now I have long, slightly-deeper-than-zipper-like lacerations on the back of my thigh. A most unwelcome way to start my day. I suppose it is a lot better than one of the cats dropping a dead (or live) mouse in my mouth while I'm trying to sleep, but that thought brings very little comfort while I try to find a way to sit without scraping one of those cuts....
By the end of next week, I may need an artificial replacement leg if Josie continues to shred this one off a chunk at a time.
It is a good thing she is cute and cuddly
Mini Dodgers?
The media keeps going on about these Derochers sort of thing. I could have sworn that was the name of the LA Dodgers' manager back in the late sixties. What does he have to do with the weather? 8^P
At any rate, we got a mini deluge at Ealdercote shortly after I got home. High winds, torrential rains, thunder, lightning--the works. And it all lasted less than half an hour. Josie was all set for heavy weather by hiding in the upstairs hall bathroom. Smart girl!
My sweetie and I checked out the lawn and driveway after the storm passed to see if we could tell where the water had been flowing. Speculation after speculation. I think I'm just going to bring in a bunch of dirt and recontour the drainage ditch at the top of the yard so it will take a lot more water to overflow it than is happening now. Oddly enough, the drainage ditch seems to have a number of open holes leading down. Are they sinkholes or animal burrows? I'm not sure.
Anxious
When we got the estimate last week, the repair shop told us the car should be ready on Wednesday this week. Knowing that was merely an estimated completion date, I didn't bother to call and check up on it. Not receiving a call yesterday has generated a small amount of anxiety. I am hoping to hear some news today.
