Travel Tip

Via the cafeteria staff, today's travel tip for visiting other countries is that when you are asked if you have anything to declare, A Thumb War is not an appropriate response.

Almost-But-Not-Quite In Charge

OK, ealdthryth and I are formally committed to the railroad club and museum for the foreseeable future. I'm now the newsletter editor, and she got elected to be Treasurer last night. Turn out for the holiday party was pretty large, with most members bringing their spouses. We actually had a few more people than we had formal seating, but luckily, the cafe has enough "informal" seating that we were able to seat everyone. My first attempt at casserole had to compete with two other versions of broccoli casserole, and from empirical evidence, it appears as though mine was chosen more often than the others (I came away with a much smaller amount of leftovers).

In an amusing turn of events, ealdthryth discovered that our membership includes some people she knows from other venues, so she was able to "catch up" with them. And just like our days in the SCA, we stayed after to clear up the aftermath and take care of the recycling.

Sphinx Fu

Ignatius has pulled out a lot more of his fur than I was aware of. I noticed that most of the fur on the inside and outside of his hind legs is gone, and he has started nibbling at the fur on his sides (I discovered this last night). I have no idea what to do. We (and Dr. Furr) think giving him steroid shots to manage his itching contributed to his diabetes, so I'm really reluctant to give our poor tabby another steroid shot. If it were fleas, the other cats would be exhibiting similar behavior, so it is something specific to Ignatius--possibly an allergy. The only factors I think I can isolate are the change in food and possibly some correlation with the "green" pest control service we use. :(

D'oh! A Deer!

We arrived home after the holiday party to discover not one, not two, but a trio of deer hanging out in our back yard. They warily watched us pull in the driveway, but made no attempt to flee. Luckily, none of them had antlers, so they weren't likely to charge us in a fit of buck-ish bravado.
