ealdthryth had to work late on Friday, so I was pretty much home alone with the cats on my birthday. I used the time unwisely, but at least the PlayStation got some exercise. Since Sunday was our anniversary, we decided to more or less celebrate both occasions on Saturday with dinner out and a minor shopping frenzy. We only meant to check out the Halloween and Christmas decorations, but multiple tables of cheap scrubs and pants attracted
ealdthryth's attention. Once the low-cost bug bit us, it was downhill from there. Sigh. At least we now have something to keep the shoes from piling up on the floor, plenty of reading material, and some entertaining gifts for people. We also stopped by Target so I could get anniversary cards (normally, I have this taken care of in advance but events overtook me this year) and so
ealdthryth could restock on socks. I resisted the urge to buy Legos. It was a huge effort of will. Just sayin'
I got a handful of remote-control birthday wishes and anniversary wishes via
ealdthryth's MyLiveFaceJournalSpaceBook, which was a little unfair since I don't use that network (they were still appreciated, though). No, you still can't convince me to adopt yet another network....
My sweetie and the kitties did well with the presents this year. A book on building a Tesla turbine, DVDs, and some other books from the Amazon wishlist. For our anniversary,
ealdthryth received DVDs, too, and the cats got her an überky-oot Batgirl that elicited the Universal Sound of Cuteness....
Lazy Roll Fu
While changing the sheets on the bed last night,
ealdthryth and I were amused by AElfgifu's performance for us. She was stretched out on her side, leaning against one of the catnip toy mice. Then she stretched a little more and slllloooooooowwwwwwwwlllllyyyyyyy rolled over onto the mouse. I have no idea why, but the lazy roll amused us greatly.
Affinity Bridge
Yep, light reading, but fun. I more or less figured out the mystery early in the book, but the actual details and the story leading to their relevation was still good. Some of the science was dubious (OK, one thing was outrageous), but it still felt like the right conclusion to a Victorian-style novel.
ealdthryth started reading it last night, and I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.
Decorating
ealdthryth is encouraging me to decorate early for Halloween. We (well, me mostly) put out some effort for Christmas so as to have an entertaining display, but seeing all the Halloween decorations has gotten her into a mood to decorate for more holidays. I think Dragon*Con may have also stoked her enthusiasm.....
