Artistic Inertia

Darn inertia.

I have many ideas, but am unable to commit any of them to paper (or pixel). All I need is that one spark of inspiration...come to think of it, I think I have the inspiration, but not the enthusiam or courage to implement it. Perhaps what I really need is a complete lack of inhibition towards committing to my ideas. It is a lot like having "writer's block"--the visions and ideas I have in my head seem interesting, but when I want to commit them to paper, the translation from mind's eye to rendering doesn't work out the way I want it to. And so, I am afraid to put any of it down on paper lest the reality doesn't live up to my vision. Converting paper designs into 3D is just about as bad....

I've had too many disappointments on various projects, and I am a low-risk kind of person. Some people say, Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The more cynical and pessimistic of us say, Nothing ventured, nothing lost. Unfortunately, the end result of that attitude is that I get to be Wasted Potential Boy©.

Yes, I'm being angsty about my art. However, said art isn't going to be about the angst. The angst is all about getting started on it.

Icky Fu

I was actually going to be on time to work this morning. That is, until I entered the kitchen. Some kitty had a "Klingon" left from an expedition to the litter box and done the poot scoot boogie all the way across the kitchen floor to scrape it off.

Ewwww!

It took me 15 minutes to clean it all up with antibacterial soap. I suspect the culprit was Kiera. She sat in the hallway with a guilty expression watching me clean up. Every time I glanced up, she ducked her head as if to say sawwy.

Poor girl!

Politics

I have been sorely disappointed with what I see out of both "mainstream" parties during this election year. It is too bad that American politics has become so deeply partisan and extremist that all they can do is snipe at each other rather than trying to actually demonstrate or explain what it is that they can offer that will be good for all of us.

"Wedge issues". Bah. "Values Voters" vs. "Social Justice". I could have such fun with doing that as a satirical comic series. Instead of trying to spin their platform as the great panacea to cure what ails this country, each party seems to be doing nothing more than taking cheap shots and produce marginally clever witticisms in order to get a little air time. It just seems more like an opportunity for them all to vent their spleen at each other and splatter us with it, too. They each try to slap a label on themselves to make it seem as if they are more noble than the other side. In my view, calling it "manure" doesn't make it smell any more pleasant.

A HUGE part of the problem is the media. I don't care if people view the media as left-wing or right-wing. The media is neither. The media is a profit-making industry and will do whatever it takes to get ratings. If it means turning the political process into governmental version of "Survivor" or some other so-called reality television show, they'll do it. To get people watching they'll rile you up as much as possible. Controversy just feeds their money machine.

Political demogogues masquerade as "entertainers" yet they seem to have an indordinate sway over the zombies that sit in front of the television set crying "Right on!" to whatever fear-mongering drivel that spews forth. "They're taking away your rights!" "We'll be attacked at any second!" "They'll make the world end!" (that works for either side) "You'll all be poor and impoverished" "They'll tax and spend!" "They'll borrow and spend!" "Warmongers!" "Environmentalists!" "They're attacking our religion!" "They are imposing their religion!" "They're in the pocket of Big Oil!" "Free Market!" "Cats and dogs living together!" "Mass hysteria!"

Bleh. They've all lost my interest with their overblown rhetoric and distortions.

I think each person who wants to vote should take and pass a current events quiz. If you are uninformed about the issues and current events and how the party platforms relate to them, you should not be allowed to vote. My reasoning? If you can't be bothered to know and understand what is going on around you, then you are in no fit position to be selecting your leadership. You've already abrogated your responsibility as a citizen by just blindly picking a candidate based on party, platform, looks, or some other single unimportant attribute.

The whole principle of a democracy or a republic isn't supposed to be about popularity, fear, blind faith, or blind party loyalty. It is supposed to be about informed decision-making on the part of the populace. Somewhere along the line, "we" lost sight of that.

And what the heck is this "Change" that both parties keep trying to portray that they offer? Change from what into what? As far as I can tell, we might as well be changing what brand of beer they all drink. Why? Because the lobbyists are the equivalent of the political bartenders.... The legislature pretty much drinks up whatever the lobbyists serve and the rest of us sit outside trying to peddle lemonade.

And in spite of my cynical view, I still vote. Primarily in the hopes that one of those people I am voting for is a teatotaller that likes lemonade....8^P
