Cimorene is sitting beside the lake. She feels a bit guilty - she should be weeding the beans. But then, she should also be visiting Gareth. She should have slept more. But right now, she is watching the water and running a small, blue rubber ball through her fingers ( Read more... )

*Ilmarinen is headed to the lake to try out some new fish-hooks that he's just finished--but on seeing Cimorene looking so lost and empty, he tucks his new lines into his pocket (nets are better, anyway) and sits beside her--not saying anything, but only gaging whether she'd like to speak*

She raises an eyebrow, still looking out at the lake as she says, "I'm not going to start weeping or singing or any fool thing, if that's what you're waiting for."

*a small smile in return* I am not averse to singing.

"Well, as a princess sitting by the edge of a lake, it's traditionally expected," she says a bit dryly. "I would hate to disappoint."

*an even smaller smile, as he toys with the fish-hooks in the front pocket of his apron* I know nothing of a princess, but in distant Kalevala all the way to Sariola, even Ahti's seaside homeland, songs are used for joy and mourning--wedding songs to greet the bridegroom and the bride with him returning, feasting songs to help the beer flow--my own brother is a harper and a singer of great power.

She looks down. "I like music well enough. But drawing attention to myself won't do anything constructive, though it was the end of most of my formal education."

Have you cause for joy, or mourning?

"Neither, truly." She looks over at him. "I'm just tired, and frustrated. Aren't many songs for that."

*about to agree--then pauses, and looks over the lake* There is one; my brother knows it. He could charm a land to sleeping.

"He's not a wizard, is he?" she asks, a bit warily.

*mildly* Some have called him that--a wizard, or a sorcerer, magician. *some have called him a god, in more recent times, but Ilmarinen doesn't know that part*

"Well, they're quite different, aren't they? I mean, where I come from, they are, anyway."

Also, Cimorene is not spontaneously nine. *facepalm*

*shrugs* In my land, he is a singer, and the host of all Wainola.

We didn't think she was, but we were tempted to use the eight!Ilmarinen icon. ^_~

"The wizards I knew weren't particularly musical or hospitable."

Then I guess he was no wizard. *stands, sensing that this is a sensitive topic for her and that discussing it is not conducive to her rest* He is far from here, and walking; we are here, and should be resting. Will you sleep? *kindly* To sleep might help you.
