Cimorene is sitting beside the lake. She feels a bit guilty - she should be weeding the beans. But then, she should also be visiting Gareth. She should have slept more. But right now, she is watching the water and running a small, blue rubber ball through her fingers ( Read more... )

Luther has taken to walking on the sun--it feels good on his old bones, and keeps him from getting too stiff--quiet, with his hands in his pockets. He looks like old earth and is as leathery as the skin of a potato.

Words are something of a needless commodity to him, and he stands nearby her silently, watching the lake surface.

After a few moments, she notices that someone else is there. Without turning, she says, "Hasn't done much interesting yet."

He laughs, very quietly and earthily. "Some."

"Well," she points, "there's something big moving over there under the surface. And there's a heron keeps coming and going on the other side."

*Ilmarinen is headed to the lake to try out some new fish-hooks that he's just finished--but on seeing Cimorene looking so lost and empty, he tucks his new lines into his pocket (nets are better, anyway) and sits beside her--not saying anything, but only gaging whether she'd like to speak*

She raises an eyebrow, still looking out at the lake as she says, "I'm not going to start weeping or singing or any fool thing, if that's what you're waiting for."

*a small smile in return* I am not averse to singing.

"Well, as a princess sitting by the edge of a lake, it's traditionally expected," she says a bit dryly. "I would hate to disappoint."

In case Cimorene actually wants to talk to another female for once in her DF life, Mrs Strange is wandering also by the lake, and will stop not far down the shore from Cimorene. Her eye catches the movement of the ball and follows it for a long moment-- when she realizes she's staring, she laughs and looks away. "I beg your pardon."

"What for?" Cimorene looks up at her, apparently not startled by the other woman, though it's anyone's guess whether she had noticed her before she spoke.

"I was staring." She smiles, "Unless you did not notice, in which case-- why, nothing at all."

Cimorene shakes her head with a wry smile. "I was actually quite used to being stared at, once. Don't worry about it."

Zjendjan hasn't been given any actual duties yet and is poking about the mansion's grounds in the meanwhile. He doesn't notice Cimorene at first seeing as how he's busy trying to get his boots off so he can wade.

"Usually works better if you sit," she says, watching him tug at his boot.

"Huh?" He jerks his head up a little too quickly, loses his balance, and ends up sitting on the ground.

She half grins. "Well, not quite what I meant, but it might be easier to get them off now."

Beatrice has her commonplace book out once more, and is working on making a rough map of the Mansion and its grounds. This is turning out to be more difficult than she expected, and she doesn't really notice Cimorene until she's standing right next to her.

When she notices her, she hesitates, not sure what to do. She can tell something's wrong, but she doesn't really know Cimorene well enough to ask about it. In the end she just gives an awkward wave and says "Hi."

"Oh, hi." She looks up at Beatrice. "Sorry I haven't found the fireproofing spell yet. I've been kind of busy. It does seem to work though, more or less, when I renewed my own."

Beatrice shrugs. "That's okay. It doesn't matter right now anyway. I don't think I'll be leaving any time soon."

"Probably not. Homesick?"
