God wants you to have fun.

I've been felt lead to say this. It's part of the reason I've been hovering around the internet most the night when I've been trying not to do that lately.

Anyhoo, let's get down to it: God wants you to have fun. He gave you life as a gift; you might as well enjoy it. Don't feel guilty in taking joy in things that are not inherently evil. There will be time for doing things that suck and are no fun later. If you have a spare moment, do something that you LIKE to do, not something that you feel OBLIGATED to do, but ultimately is pretty pointless in the grand scheme of things. Taking joy in something and thanking God that it exists is a GREAT WAY TO WORSHIP. I’m sure that God appreciates that you like it; he made it, after all. I enjoy hearing “good job!” when someone is acknowledging something I drew, wrote, or sang.

Examples: If you love rock n’ roll, thank God for rock n’ roll. If you love driving in fast cars, thank God for fast cars. If you love food, thank God for food. If you love comic books, movies, TV, or whatever, thank God for those things as well. He allowed them to exist; they can’t be inherently evil. In fact, one might say that he made them specifically for you to enjoy, and that he made you so that you might enjoy them. He made you like that. More on that later.

Clearly, there are certain things that are only to be enjoyed in the right circumstances (or are not to be enjoyed at all.) Those things are outlined in the 10 Commandments. Everything else is pretty much fair game. So don’t be a fricken’ Pharisee about life and worry only about knowing God’s law. They worried about it so much that they mistook Jesus for a heretic and plotted his downfall. They had eyes, but did not see, and had ears, but did not hear.

Back to the whole “God made you like that” statement: a wise pastor named Jeff (of the Valley Christian Center in Albany) said it first. He was speaking of a habit in which he’d jump over chairs, and how a fellow member of this old church didn’t like it. Well, God told this member (in regards to Jeff jumping over the chairs) “I made him like that; I love it.” So let’s run with that: God has made you the way you are, however “imperfect” you may be. Don’t try to be something else for other people so that they can be more comfortable around you; be yourself. You won’t have fun trying to be something you’re not, and the truth will come out eventually anyway. If people don’t like who or what you are, they’d better either learn to deal with it, or not had better not hang out with you anymore. Take me for example: I’m Tom, I have a weird sense of humor, I do a lot of weird, crazy things that make some people uncomfortable. I can’t change who I am, so I might as well be bold about it. You don’t like it? Too bad. God made me this way and he LOVES it.

So in conclusion: Enjoy life, enjoy a healthy relationship with God.
