So in my French class today we were going over the homework, which was on using passé composé and imparfait properly. This consisted of filling in the verbs on a story version of Cinderella (or Cendrillon, rather). The prof, who gets easily distracted, started telling us about how the glass slipper was, in the French version, made of vair (fur), not verre (glass) and it was mistranslated into English. (I believe this is contested but that's really not the point.)
Anyway, the idea that Cinderella might once have been a story in French absolutely confounded this one girl in my class. Finally she whispered to her friend, looking totally baffled, "I thought Cinderella was a Disney movie?"
Oh dear me.
(Meanwhile, it is Thanksgiving weekend! I am so happy. I love Thanksgiving because it means TURKEY DINNER YAY. I loooove turkey dinners. Also it means I actually got a word in edgewise during my tutorial today because all the really smart chatty people had already gone home. =b)
