I gave you all a girl can give you

Learned at work today: Either high-school-acquaintance (I fancied her a bit when I was fifteen but I've since forgotten her name) gains weight very strangely or she is very very pregnant. Whaaaat. I realise this isn't THAT shocking but it's just really hard to get my head around because she's MY AGE wtf wtf.

Last night I had a sad and couldn't sleep, so ended up on YouTube at four in the morning watching, of all things, Sesame Street. It was EXCELLENT. And not just random Sesame Street clips! (No, I do that in the day time!) It was Don't Eat The Pictures, which is a special I must have gotten from the library a million times when I was a teeny tiny little Silver. Not sure HOW old I was - it was released on VHS two years before I was born - but it was long ago enough that I couldn't remember many details, just "Big Bird and Snuffy find some dead kid who wants to be a star and there's a thing with really high steps" and a vague unsettled feeling. As it turns out, the kid wasn't dead after all! He'd just lived on his own for 4000 years as a small orphaned child with no one for company except his invisible cat! :D? It was also where I learnt the phrase "get some shut-eye", so yeah, I was pretty tiny.

It was really genuinely good, though, and not nearly as creepy as my memories of it were. Yeah, it's crap children's television from the eighties, and there was some unfortunate ~*acting*~ and worse special effects, but I absolutely loved it. Actually made me laugh out loud at parts ("A GANGSTER?!", ♥Ernie and Bert♥ and the world's worst joke, SUPER GROVER!), I am all for promoting the very important message of "MUSEUMS ARE AWESOME", and I just... want to force small children to sit down and watch it. And and and OSCAR SERENADES THE BEAUTY OF BROKEN STATUES. THE SUBTEXT MADE ME WANT TO CRY WITH LOVE. God Sesame Street was FANTASTIC. When I was little one of my uncles would always mention how much he loves that show and I always thought he was just humouring us, but I totally see his point now. (Except now the show's just The Elmo Show. Siiigh.)

Have a link. It's probably like most nostalgic things where you can't appreciate it when you didn't see it as a small child but I don't care.

So next time I can't sleep I'm going to see if they've got the special where Big Bird goes to China! \o/ I love the internet.

nostalgia, youtube is love, money-making, tv
