[ The first thing he notices, as consciousness slowly returns to Edward, is the feel of crisp, cool sheets surrounding his body. They rustle softly as he moves, the sound coming to him as if through a dream. Maybe it's because he hasn't quite awoken yet, but sensations are soon returning. Like the feel of warmth from the sun through high glass windows, and the smell of disinfectant. That enough tells him where he is, but that brings forth new questions. He knows who he is, where he is, but how he came to be in the infirmary is an answer he doesn't know. The strange feeling of disconnectedness that accompanies the lack of memory reminds him of waking up in the Amestrian hospital after the events within the Fifth Laboratory. And much like then, he struggles to recall what happened.
Slowly, as his mind picks apart the last scenes he remembers, his eyes begin to blink open. It takes a few seconds, the light making him wince as golden eyes adjust. Above him, he can see the high, vaulted ceiling of the hospital wing of Hogwarts, it's dark corners a contrast to the bright light streaming through the windows. The view provides a temporary distraction, but soon passes as he begins shifting, pushing himself up.
His right hand, cool at his side, slides behind him to provide support as he gradually lifts himself to a sitting position. Much like waking, the movement is slow as the change in elevation makes his head spin a little. He must have been out a long time, he thinks. But he still doesn't know why. At least he's sitting up, gaze moving from the ceiling to his lap where white cotton sheets cover his lower half. Typical of a hospital.
Left hand moving now, it comes to his forehead, palm flattening against skin under his bangs as he gives himself a slight shake. He really needs to find out what happened. And after that...
A thought comes to him. Al... Before he'd ended up here, he dimly remembers the concern of dementors approaching the school, causing chill weather and dismal moods. Had that been the cause of his black out? If so, where was Al? Was he alright? His lips move, as if sounding out the syllables of the name Alphonse. Where is his brother? ]
