30 Days Meme: Day 4

I have two favorite books, and they are The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien.
I first read The Handmaid's Tale as a freshman in high school, and I was the only one in my group who actually enjoyed it. I still can't really explain why, I just do. I understand that with it's stream of consciousness style, jumping back and forth in time, and the general content it's not for everyone, but I like it. (Also, don't watch the movie. It sucks. It changes some major details, including the ending, and makes me angry.)
I also first read The Things They Carried in a book group in school, but it continues to be one of my favorites. It's a fictionaized memoirs of the author's experiences in the Vietnam War. It's graphic and extremely sad at times, but very good. As much as a it's a war story, it is also a people story, and gives some anecdotes about the art of writing. As such, my favorite story in it is "How to Tell a True War Story." I highly recommend it to those who wouldn't be too upset by the content.
