She would always remember the moment her heart shattered into a thousand seemingly irreparable pieces.
He'd come to her office, which had been her first clue that something was wrong. James Lester never came to her office, preferring instead to irritate her via phone call or e-mail or even the occasional -- and exceedingly rare -- instant message.. But this time, he came to see her.
Her second clue had been the way he wouldn't look her in the eye.
"What is it, James?" she asked gently. "Talk to me."
And then he said those two words that would forever mark her as broken.
"He's gone."
