Not What I Do
“Why did you keep me?” she asks, pressing her fingers light against the hollow where his collarbones meet, holding the breath beneath his skin in her hand. “Didn't have to. I wasn't useful.”
“Which time?” he asks, and his voice tries to be light, but she felt the breath catch on her words.
She doesn't answer, and be buries his face in her hair, breathing out against the crown of her head. “Answer's always the same, anyhow. Cause you're you and I'm me.”
His breath on her skin says all the words his mouth can't manage.
