They would have to go under another level, just like it was planned. Arthur would stay on the first level for security reasons and Eames would have to drop down to the second level. At least there weren’t three levels this time, to which Eames was grateful.

Arthur had the PASIV device out before Eames even got to the bed to lie on it. He was beginning to roll up the sleeve on his right arm and reached out to grab a line before Arthur came up to him, line in hand.

Eames sighed, a grin playing at his lips. Arthur always did that: helped him hook up to the PASIV device. It was bit annoying but it was one of the few gestures of kindness and contact that Arthur displayed toward Eames during the job. (Outside the job was another matter entirely.) He swore Arthur did it just to annoy Eames, maybe to pay him back for all the times Eames tipped over his chair. Eames couldn’t blame him. After all, he did tease Arthur quite a bit.

Eames laid back, feeling the drug come over him, and he readied his mind for the second level. (He hated going under, in all honesty, but he wasn’t about to say that to Arthur.) He glanced at Arthur, who smiled at him, as if reassuring him that everything would be okay, and that he’d be there when Eames woke up, and Eames smiled back, as if he was telling Arthur that he’d be careful.
