Yes snow - we haz it. In less than 45 minutes there is an inch on the ground, and the entire storm system extends back over 500 miles to the west. The prediction was originally for "1 to 3 inches" - err, I don't think so...At this rate we may have a good 6- ( Read more... )

Looks like the next stop of the 'Snowpocalypse' Tour - 2010 will be the Southeast. It has already hit Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi and Alabama, Georgia and even the panhandle of Florida could see the white stuff.

The storm is on a deep southern track, so the Atlanta Metro area and points south are expecting several inches of accumulation. ( Read more... )

According to one of the local weather gurus, only three states: Georgia, Florida and Louisiana have no snow cover. The rest of the country (including Hawaii - remember the big volcanoes are over 13,000') has snow and LOTS of it ( Read more... )

OK - it's only an inch of snow at most. But underneath is a thin sheet of ice and it is THIS fact that causes all the massive school/government and work closings. Right now it is 20 degrees F and won't likely go above freezing most of the weekend.

Could it be? Will Northern Georgia be hit with a rare December snow event? The forecast for Friday night/Saturday morning is for a visit of the 'white stuff', possibly mixed with rain by morning.

Neat.

I doubt it will stay around very long, or even stick - but 'Holiday Snow' is a rare event in these parts.
