Not a whole lot going on since being the science track director of AnachroCon 2011. I and
pixelmonster picked up 50 dollars a piece for doing a talk on Alexandria - the Clockwork City for the
Atlanta Free thought Society back on March 11. I think the most amusing aspect was that their meeting location is inside what once was a primitive Baptist church. *snickers*
A little over a week ago, I picked up a new monster 4-burner (plus side sauce/stew burner) BBQ for the massed burning of meat and other tasty things to eat. So yes, if you haven't heard on FB - there is another party at Mars House in less than 3 weeks. More details to come in
partyatvernards and
margarita_fri.
And now, the SHINY of the Week:
The 1st Quarter Moon - now in Color!
If you shoot your DSLR in 'raw mode' - it is possible to stretch/pull out all sorts of normally subtle colors of the lunar surface. The range of colors = differences in the composition of the lunar surface.
Image of the Apollo 15 landing site - and Hadley Rille
Here is an image I shot of the
Hadley Rille and the Apollo 15 landing site back on March 12th. The sinuous 'rille' is a lava channel about a kilometer wide and over 400 meters (1200') deep.
A couple partially enrolled trilobites - Ceraurus pleurexanthemus
A couple of spiny trilobites (the big one - the Skipper, little one - Gilligan) from upstate NY that I recently acquired. They date back to the Upper Ordovician or c. 475 million years BP. These normally look like
*this*, but these trilobites are partially enrolled - much like pill bugs or "roly polys".
