Lab Politics

Or, how the isotope radiates

I just found out today that within the next couple weeks, the area I currently use for my office space will be re-allocated for two static detector (lead) shields. These are NON-functioning shields weighing a couple metric tons - with NO radiation detectors inside (as of yet..)

These shields will also be *close* to the main power panel of this part of the building, which needs to be open to access.

Which means - that my desk, bookcases and file cabinets will need to wholesale shifted/moved in my lab area to a *different* location. It also means that to function within code, my power and internet connections will need to be re-directed.

Have I been consulted on this or included on the plans - NO!

If I hadn't been warned by a co-worker, this would have been dropped like a lead elephant on my lab. As I and the New Lab Dictator haven't never really been 'buddies' ..the likely scenario would have gone along these lines:

Lab Dictator "Oh, BTW - you need to move your desk, book cases and files out this area by tomorrow."

The Doctor *surprise office buttf*ck* What???

However, being forewarned now - I can at least do a preemptive strike of my own.

1) I will talk to the Lab Dictator early next week to get in my input and my needs to relocate. (Please NOTE - the Lab Dictator is NOT my boss - I work with him, not as a subordinate)

2) Call MY boss and detail the latest state of non-communication at the lab. (BTW, it is MY BOSS that gives funding to the program - not the other way around)

3) Call off or do some work/training on the day of the shield emplacement.

Yeah, I just loathe lab politics.

wtf, work
