Another fine mess you got me into..
SNOBs-ishness
Several days ago after getting fed-up with the increasing orientation towards the beginner/novice/gumby aspect of our local astro-club memebership, I and a couple friends proposed the formation of SNOBS - or Section of NO Bullshit Science. Covering the more technical/advanced side of astronomy, we hope to provide an outlet for the more seasoned/experienced members of our organization.
But it was interesting how much support there apparently is for an LJ community of the same name. So I propose forming a new community SNOBSS for the discussion of real science and the debunking of pseudo-science, creationism, urban myths and other weird-assed quasi-scientific pursuits. I'd like to see posts that also incorporate humor, satire, and especially large heaping helpings of snark. This has the potential of a group that the infamous "Dr. House" (of the FOX series HOUSE) would be proud to join. For example, many of my typical science posts would also be cross-posted here, along with some really heavy-handed shit that I normally would not inflict on my readership.
So - who thinks this is a good idea?
I'd need some co-moderators/owners - and perhaps this *might* need to be moderated at times. The reason: there are lots of dickweeds in the lj populace roaming on the fringes and a cluestick to the head may be in order.

Edit: - Other topics of interest would be debunking 'common knowledge' myths - such as "Columbus discovered the New World and/or proved the world wasn't flat."
I'd like to keep things open for intelligent discourse - its when things break down that moderators will be needed to enforce the community codes (among many things which will need to be hashed out).
EDIT #2 - how does one go about setting up for co-moderators and/or owners? Its not that clear in the fac. Post a comment an/or send me email on this matter.
