Rae smiled at John. He seemed so at ease, carrying the cooler to the beach. How he'd gotten the Athosians to build a small dock here, she'd never know, but it was perfect. She carried some of the folding deck chairs from the boat while Rodney brought the umbrellas. A small glance of concern at John confirmed her worry as Rodney headed for dry ( Read more... )

"Carson! Wake up!"

He heard her call out and leaned up on his elbows. Carson's eyebrows rose in surprise to see Rodney out with Rae in waist-deep water and Radek, his dear frightened Radek, hanging on to John in calf-high water. She beckoned to him.

"Come on, join us! Please?"

He smiled. This would be another step, and it felt good. Carson stood and waded out to join them. Rachel smiled brightly, and a warmth filled his heart. It really was terribly easy to make her happy. Why hadn't he tried harder before? She moved away from Rodney and came over to take his hand.

"Thank you. We're here to relax and have fun. We want you with us, husband."

Carson felt quite relaxed, and rather playful. Perhaps it was the laying down of responsibility and burdens for a day, or simply the nice warm sun and water. He grinned and dove at Rachel, knocking her back into the water. They fell under the surface, only to come up again a moment later. Rae sputtered and tried to look indignant, but it was difficult with her hair flying like a wet spaniel. Finally, she settled for smacking a wave towards him with her hand. Smiling playfully, Rachel dove as he wiped his eyes. Carson was soon following her, being a decent swimmer himself. They wove around Rodney and surfaced a few feet away. Rae smiled widely and suddenly sang a short little piece of song.

"Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim grey sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances,
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand."

Carson watched her, entranced. That was it, she was... otherworldly. "Aye, so that's your power. Ye're a selkie, ye are, come ta enchant me away..." His hands were on her waist as she blushed before him.

Rodney was a bit tense at the thought of Carson near Rae, but stepped back to watch them play. Carson was honestly just playing, not trying to make her submit or anything so Rodney let them alone. He dunked himself under the water real quick so didn't see Carson dunk Rae; he only saw Rae splashing Carson.

She and Carson wove around him under the water and though part of him was keeping a close eye on Carson, he couldn't help but smile at the carefree nature of their play. When Rae surfaced and began to sing, Rodney was just as entranced as Carson was.

Aye, so that's your power. Ye're a selkie, ye are, come ta enchant me away..."

Carson was definitely right; she was one of the fae, surely. Rodney almost interfered when Carson grabbed hold of Rae, but stopped himself. They needed to heal on their own. Instead, he allowed himself to slowly sink to his chin. He had his own healing to do.

He watched as her eyebrow rose in amusement. "A selkie, am I? Well, good thing I've hidden my sealskin well and have NO plans on leaving you at all." Rachel placed her hands on his chest and leaned into him. Her voice lowered a bit, carrying only as far as Rodney. "Would that help, then, my darling? You know I embody the Old Ways, even if of a different land. Though I have pledged always to thine heart, I could be your Leannan Sidhe."

Carson wasn't sure how this beach was working such magic. The woman in his arms seemed to sparkle, to be a part of the landscape. He moved his arms around her waist and back, feeling the heavy coolness of her hair, and watching the play of light in her jade eyes. Drops of water twinkled in the sun on her face. For a short moment, he worried about her fair skin burning, but his gaze lit upon her rosy cheeks and sweet lips. Drawn in, his darkened eyes slowly closed as he lowered his mouth to hers.

Rae's arms slid up and around his neck as Carson kissed her, drawing her even closer. It was obvious to the others that this was a real kiss, the kiss he was finally meant to give her. His lips moved against her, stealing her breath for a long moment until they finally drew apart. Carson watched her for a second before they both blushed madly at the applause from their spouses.
