Confused...

After the scare with Inara, and walking in on Derek and Kaylee in a compromising position, Simon heads to Kaylee's room and lays down on the bed, resting on his side. His mind is strangely blank, as he can't seem to process what he had just seen in the engine room.

Surely it was all innocent and merely two people getting in each other's way...

Soon though, the door was kicked open and Kaylee was climbing down the ladder. She pushes the button to close the door before walking over to the bed and sitting down. She reaches over to brush his hair back behind his ear. "You ok, sweetie?" she asked softly. "What happened?"

His hand comes up to cover hers and he looks up at her. He has to fight to remember why he went to her in the first place. He frowns as he tries to recall what he had been doing before the engine room...oh, right.

"Inara...she uh...she hurt herself. Broke free of the restraints and got up. Ripped herself open again. She's okay now. Passed out. Chara gave her blood."

Kaylee gives a little gasp. "Oh my Goodness!" she says softly. "Why'd she ever get up!? Of all th'silly things. Was Cap awake? Did he cause trouble?"

He rubs his eyes and rolls onto his back. "Mal was awake, he...he and Inara were talking, I think. He got her back onto the table. Found him by her side when I got there...he helped me."

A sigh of relief as her hand moves to lay on his tummy. "Oh, that's good." she says softly. "Cap'll take good care of 'er, now. You don' have t'worry no more."

He nods. "Needed you...afterwards. Came to find you."

If he's sounding like River, you have to forgive him. He's a little out of it.

A soft, concerned smile and she moves to lay down next to him and cuddle close. "That bad, huh?" she whispers.

His arm goes around her. "A bit bad," he admits. "I've seen worse, but..."

But that was a long time ago, in place where things were incredibly antiseptic, including the detatchment of the doctor to the pain and blood and...here was different. Here it was more real...

And if he says any of these things out loud, then we apologize. His mouth moves when he thinks, remember?

She listens silently as her hand absently caresses his chest. "That's cause you love everyone here, sweetie." she says softly. "We're all family."

He sighs, her presence doing more for him than her words, though those help, too. The Engine room was an innocent misunderstanding, he figures. Derek had to be leaning over Kaylee to see the grav-line, because the only way for her to point it out was from down on the floor...and that room was small at the best of times. With Kaylee's tools strewn about....

Another sigh and a squeeze for Kaylee. He turns his head to kiss her on the nose. "I suppose you're right. It's different when you don't know the people you're helping..."

She nods with a little giggle as he kissed her nose. "You care for them more so it's harder." she says softly. "But, 'Nara gonna be alright. You're a great doctor, Simon."

"Yes, she'll be all right," he says with a smile. He might blush a little at her praise, but other than that he doesn't say anything.

She smiles at his blush and kisses him on his cheek.

"I love you," he whispers.

A bright smile and a chaste kiss on the lips. "I love you, too."

"Stay with me today?" Meaning, of course, don't go back to work I promise not to drive you nuts.
