Fire going out

Oh no, my firewall is dying! In the past 48 hours it has spontaneously rebooted three times, kicked up a plethora of media read errors, core dumped every effort to compile new programs and just before lost carrier signal on the internal NIC. This is a very bad thing. True, most the hardware is older than me, but I so love that box. And now it looks ( Read more... )

Thankyou, thats a very nice offer. However USPS indicates it will cost around US$50 to send it here, (does 9 pounds sound about right for weight?) and none of my power supplies are suitable for a thinline case (only an american could call the power system used by almost the entire world 'whacko' :p ). Which makes it pretty expensive for that kind of hardware. Unless I've got my got my conversion wrong with that whacko american weight measurement.

I'm checking out a few hardware firewalls, but I'm yet to find one that lets me script rule changes - something I make extensive use of.

I was at a house the other night that had dual wiring too. It was being used in a home theatre setup that mixed American and Australian equipment. First time I've ever actually seen a SCART connection in use. But we have 240v, is that what you have wired?

I found some P3 800's with 128M and a 17" monitor for $300! Going to get one or two, it's hardcore overkill but I loved those chips and it would let me play with Icecast easily {and more}. Don't need monitors either, so I can find something fun to use them for.

Hey, i just saw you on _nephthys_'s LJ, and i think i met u up at one of novo's fetish clubs yonks ago - I was DJ for most of the night in the smaller rooms.

On the subject of the firewall boxen, I'm pretty sure i've still got my old linux machine in the garage (about P233 if i remember correctly), which i've been meaning to ressurect lately, but don't have the tolerance to leave it buzzing away 24/7. It would be handy to have access to a linux box again tho, if you're willing to provide a location for it.

From one of the Rebounds right? I remember two of you back there, which one are you?

I sorted the firewall issue out, went way overboad with a P3. But I'm always interested in more hardware, I'd like to move icecast and ftp out of the jail and onto a seperate box. So I'll happily house and gainfully employ it.
