Fire going out

Oh no, my firewall is dying! In the past 48 hours it has spontaneously rebooted three times, kicked up a plethora of media read errors, core dumped every effort to compile new programs and just before lost carrier signal on the internal NIC. This is a very bad thing. True, most the hardware is older than me, but I so love that box. And now it looks like I will soon have to put it out of it's misery.

But I'll have to get a new one, which brings up some interesting options. I could check out one of those netgear firewall/router boxes. But that doesn't give me a jailed web/ftp server, IDS or any of the other things that makes my baby so cool. I could build a brand new desktop and relegate my old one to firewall duties - but an athlon 2600+ with 1G RAM just seems like overkill for the job. Or one of you could make the decision really easy and donate that old desktop sitting in your cupboard to me. I'll give you a shell account and some ftp space on it....
