Things are winding down

The last trapping run was anticlimactic to say the least. A couple of setbacks meant that Rob and i (Lisa had hurt her back and had to sit this one out) went down to the bay on Sunday instead of the intended Saturday. He had a lot of other things to do, so we decided to forgo the drop nets; we probably wouldn't have caught much anyway due to the weather and the moon's phase. We got there and the water level was higher than we had ever seen due to tides and the previous day's rain. So, we only got one crab of a species we had gotten previously. I think we walked around with the nets for all of fifteen minutes before decided to pack it in and head back. But i did finally get some pictures of the bay, of Bear Rock, and one of the traps (as well as a few through-the-windshield shots on the ride home).

I think i'm on the home stretch as far as the lit search goes, at least until i get back to Hawaii. I'm just about at the limit of what i can do over the internet, and i sent the first version of the annotated bibliography to Dr. Brown last night; i still have a few things to add, but it's mostly done. And i think i'll finally get to talk with a shrimp farmer some time this week.

Since i have a housemate coming, i decided to do some house cleaning today. The whole place is tiled, and it cleans up a lot nicer than carpet. I if ever decide to buy a house, i'll probably tile the whole thing. I also got to thinking that the way a toilet is designed--with all the curves at the base--makes it a lot harder to clean than it could be if the bowl just came straight down (on the outside; i think the internal part of the bowl has to be paraboloid) and extended all the way back to the wall. They do it for bathtubs, why not toilets? One final note: almost every time i picked something up or moved something, i would find a gecko hiding in it. I think i have about six geckos in the house right now, which is at least five more than i need. At least they have the decency not to do their mating calls inside the house.
