Karma

What does "karma" mean to you?

Karma?

The idea that what goes around comes around. The theory that people get what they deserve or what they’ve earned in the next life. It’s a nice idea. Too many people get away with too much in this world. There’s so much that goes unaccounted for. Unpunished. The idea that somehow that’s being taken into account, that there’s some sort of cosmic tally sheet has appeal. And forcing someone to come back as a ‘lower’ life form has a poetry to it. Although, I do take exception to the traditional view of what constitutes a ‘lower’ life form.

That said, I wouldn’t mind knowing that Marco Bario is going to come back as a bug in his next life, or that Durante becomes a scared little mouse, or maybe Graham Deauville gets to start at the bottom of the evolutionary scale as a single-celled organism.

There are also so many things to want for people that they just didn’t get the chance to have in this life. Or haven’t yet, anyway. Devon married, or Michael with a big family. Kitt in love.

So many possibilities. So little time.

And sometimes just too little poetic justice. Or justice of any kind.

Karma’s a pretty fantasy.
