Started off my morning by helping with a special wreath laying at the tomb for a group that does them anually. I went down there early, set up and stayed in the shack keeping warm by the small heater. The warmth felt quite nice for a while, until I had to move as the director of the estate was on his way down for the ceremony. He paced around for a bit awainting the group and making small talk. Most of the time however there was silence. We both heard the group coming before they got there as the sound of the drum filled the air. Once they arrived one man took charge getting the ceremony going with the pledge of alligence, a prayer and the laying of the wreath. At the end taps was played slowly, which really added a nice closer to it all. I've done other wreath layings but add taps to that and you've got something that could really bring tears to someone's eyes. Took me a while to thaw once I got back up to the lounge, as parts of me were pretty cold.
This evening I watched some of the closing ceremonies for the Olympic Games in Torino. I'm always so happy to see them arrive and sad to see them go. For me it's one of those things I love to watch every other year. In winter the figure skating is my favorite and the summer I love the gymnastics, but I usually find myself watching other events as well. Now that Torino is "closed" it's onward to Beijing '08, Vancouver '10 & London '12. Congrats to all the athletes and medalists of the Torino Games, ya'll did great.:-D
