Waltzing in Scotland - Glasgow and Edinburgh October 4/5th

It’s stupid o’clock in the morning and I’ve just got back from Scotland. It’s likely that someone has already posted up stuff about these two gigs, but for the record, here’s a small bulletin.

Glasgow and Edinburgh and the band Waltzes on. This tour is really cracking up to be something special. The band clearly love playing in Scotland. In Glasgow, Anthony announced that ‘Glasgow is my favourite place to play’, and the crowds in both cities were hugely enthusiastic, although neither venue - both quite large former cinemas - was full. The sets were almost identical for both nights, similar to Preston but with the addition of ‘Tired of England’ and, in Glasgow, ‘In Bloom’. A stonking 21 tracks. At this rate, we’ll be getting marathon sets of fifty odd songs by the end of the tour.

But it’s not the length or variety of the set list that has made these gigs so enjoyable. It’s been the energy and enthusiasm of the band themselves. They’re having fun. And making sure that the audience does too. Personally, Preston has been the pick of the three so far, with Edinburgh a close second, but all three have been characterised by sparks flying and almost palpable high spirits from the band.

Glasgow featured an aftershow and DJ set from… well, Didz, really. Not one of the great moments of band-fan interchange, it was a mob-fest of the highest order, with an overcrowded club bursting at the seams and people packed four or five deep trying to get to talk to the band. Not my cup of tea, but the band gamely talked and signed and got their pictures taken and got chatted up til the wee hours of the morning.

Set List:

Incidentally, for those of you interested in whether the set list will change over the course of the tour, I think it's likely. There is talk of other tracks off RASN appearing at some point, and perhaps even some of the B sides. You can never tell what will come out as the tour progresses, but I reckon anything might happen with the mood they all seem to be in - adventurous, relaxed and happy. Whatever it is, it's bound to be good.
