I'm going to succinctly post about this festival, just because there's a lot to say. Let me know if you want any specific details.
Here's what I saw on Friday, with ratings (6 being best; 1 being worst):
* 1:30pm - 2:30pm What Made Milwaukee Famous (AT&T blue room)
Rating: 4. These guys were good, but they didn't give that extra oomph that made me fall in love.
* 2:30pm - 3:30pm Vampire Weekend (AMD)
Rating: 4.5. They had excellent energy and fun times, but they basically just played their album. They need to release a new album. Like, tomorrow. They're so young. The lead singer kinda reminded me of a younger Paul Rudd.
* 4:30pm - 5:30pm Patty Griffin (AMD)
Rating: 4. She sounded great, but I just wasn't feeling it here. I really need to see her in cafe or some small venue to really appreciate her and her music. I left early to get a good spot for the next show, which makes me a bit bummed because she played "Stay on the Ride," which is my fave song from her from the new album.
* 5:30pm - 6:30pm Hot Chip (AT&T blue room)
Rating: 6. LOVED THESE GUYS! I was looking most forward to this show, and they definitely lived up to my expectations...so much that they're going to be October's Featured Artist, but more about that later.
* 7:30pm - 8:15pm The Swell Season (AT&T blue room)
Rating: 5. Since I was close to the stage for Hot Chip, I waited the hour in between and was front and center for these two. It, unfortunately, was a lousy set-up, they had Marketa's back facing the crowd. That said, they were still really good, and I love Glen Hansard something fierce.
* 8:30pm - 10:00pm Manu Chao (AT&T)
Rating: 4.5. Jay and I finally met up together for this show; we stayed for about six songs, and we enjoyed it even though we had no idea what he was singing.
