The boy sat on another boy -- a triumphant and mildly malicious smile on his face. They were high on a play scape.
"Michael, you get off Tommy! NOW!" His mother yelled up at him from the ground below.
"I want an apple pie," said Michael.
Tommy wrestled free and made a run for it, but Michael grabbed him and pinned both of Tommy's arms behind his back. "You're not going anywhere," Michael said.
"MICHAEL!" Came his mother's response, "Let Tommy go. Now."
"I want an apple pie," said Michael.
"There will be plenty of cookies and cupcakes at the party. Let go of Tommy."
If it had been my child, I would have told him, "Get down now. We're going home. You just lost your party."
But no. Michael's mom looked up at him, desperation written on her face.
"I. Want. An. Apple. Pie!" he said with force.
"I'll get you one. If I do, do you promise to behave for the rest of today?" I couldn't believe it.
"No, but I will if you get me two." I couldn't believe that either.
Have we gone mad? Since when do kids bully their parents into buying them treats or else they'll turn into little demons?
