I'm Damn Good at What I Do

Last Friday, I took the day off and filled it with immovable plans.  Mid-morning, while I was out, Steve relayed a message from one of my regular clients asking me if I could do an immediate, drop-everything-now-and-work-your-butt-off-for-the-next-four-hours job.  Unfortunately, I couldn't.  Steve told them I'd be happy to work all day Saturday for them, but Saturday was too late.  They needed the copy immediately, so they hired someone else.

I cringed.  I've stolen lots of work from fellow freelance writers that way.  Most first gigs with new clients came about just by being at the right place at the right time.  Now, someone would have the chance to steal away my clients.

Monday I got a call asking me to take a crack at it.  They got the copy back from my competition and were less than pleased.  They got an extended deadline from their client, and I wrote the copy yesterday to rave reviews.

Yes, I'm damn good at what I do.

I don't recall the last time I was this proud of a piece.  Not only is it gorgeous (thanks to my clients), but the copy I wrote for The Flower Studio rocks.  (For those not in the know, the owners of The Flower Studio, Coby Neal and Beth O'Reilly, have an international reputation as being among the world's elite floral artists. They're the folks who do million dollar weddings and galas for foreign princes.)

writing, wonderworking words
