How does one get off saying that anyone in Iraq is defending my freedom in Athens, Ga? I may not be as disconnected from the world or the war as it sometimes seems, but how does Iraq have anything to do with domestic freedoms?

I think that there is something commendable about serving one's government; I really, truly do. If we were in a situation wherein I felt my society were at risk, I might just be pressed into finding out whether or not I have the balls to join up, possibly kill and maybe die for what I consider home. But this really isn't that situation.

In no way does the seriousness of the situation validate the government's decision to get involved in it. This is a silly silly 'war'. The honor of personal sacrifice and gravity of being in war should not be used to validate the actions of war. To do so is to justify any serious but stupid decision.
