Jack isn’t one for parties. Never has been but fate decrees otherwise and so hence he stands and listens, one ear on the guests while the other ear listens to Weiss or Sydney or any other of former operatives who would feed him info he already knew from studying long into the night.
Sleep doesn’t come without costs and it’s a price he’s willing to pay.
Party to Jack means loosening of things and Jack feels safer when he can breathe and just be himself, which means that he never loosens up. At least in public where he can be seen by those people who can eventually hold things over his head, as opposed to home where he can stay in with a nice merlot, a good book and a good jazz cd.
Party to Jack means listening to insincere blathering from the various office jockeys and Marshall droning on and on about things that if Jack was concentrating, would have blown his head apart.
Party to Jack symbolizes another lifetime when he believed in hope and society’s ideals.
Which is why Jack hates the word Party and all that it symbolizes.
