[For Cyd] Let's take the time to walk together while we have the sun.

Feb 11, 2010 00:14

There honestly wasn't much for George to adjust to these days; it'd only taken a month for him to get used to everything, crazy magic and all, and he had something of a routine down by now. He didn't have rounds, but he still headed to the compound at the same time every morning for breakfast, barring hangovers, ill-advised (but great) one night ( Read more... )

I usually eat breakfast in my room. I had a late start today, though, so I knew any hopes of being up early to beat the crowds are dashed. I take my time because of that, even going to get washed up beforehand thinking maybe I'll get the tail end of the line.

I don't even notice I'm about to walk into George until I do it. I was only distracted for a fraction of a second, but it was apparently enough. It's instinct that makes me grab for the shoulder in front of me to keep me steady. I look up to see who it is I just bumped into. I only realize after I end up staring at him for a long moment that I'm doing it.

"N-no," I reply, my cheeks reddening quickly. I still can't believe someone so good looking talks to me on a regular basis. Here I am, always embarrassing myself in front of him, too. "No, it's okay. Hi. Um, I mean, good morning."

I still haven't let go of his shoulder.

"Hi," George repeated, finding himself suddenly tongue-tied. Not like that was so strange an occurrence around someone he liked, but he couldn't figure out why it'd taken him this long to realize it. "How- how's your morning been?"

"Good. Better, now," I reply, giggling a little without meaning too. Only realizing now I still haven't pulled away, I let my hand drop, ducking my head in embarrassment. "Oh, sorry."

"Don't be," George said quickly, which wasn't what he'd wanted to say. He'd just rather have said something rather than whined like he wanted to when she let go of his hand, and of course he said something stupid.

"I mean...you don't have to apologize for anything, Cyd. Not to me."

I smile at that, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear carefully. He's so sweet. I've always known that, but I can see it even moreso now.

"Um. Would - would you like to eat with me? I was just going to go get some food," I offer, feeling my stomach twist into knots just because I'm asking.

"Yeah," George breathed, breaking into a smile. He wasn't sure why, but he felt more for Cyd at the moment than he had for Meredith, Callie or Izzie. Combined. George wasn't sure where the hell it suddenly came from, but he wasn't going to question it.

"I would love to. I was just on my way to get some breakfast."

"It's okay if you don't -" I start even before I really realize his answer, cutting myself off once I do. "Wait, really? Oh, good. Come on, I bet we can find someplace good to sit, too."

I know I'm probably reading too much into this. Friends eat together all the time, right? It's one of the few times I wish Tink were here. Of course, she might read into it more than I do on purpose.

Of course George did. He'd have to be the stupidest guy in the world to refuse a breakfast date with Cyd. Not that she'd said it was a date, but he was getting vibes from her, and figured acting on them was the smart thing to do.

That, and he just really wanted to.

"We could always go outside, if there's no room," George said, stepping aside to let Cyd go first. "It's nice out, by the orchard."

The suggestion made it sound like a date. Is it a date? I'm so bad at telling these things. I almost ask him outright, but I don't want him to think I don't want that. I do. I really, really do.

"Okay," I say instead. "Actually, I think I'd like that more. It sounds nice."

"Yeah?" It did sound kinda nice, and it wasn't like George could resist if it was Cyd wanted. He was pretty sure he couldn't resist giving her anything at this point. "We can go eat out there, then. Consider it done."

"You're so sweet," I say, not realizing I've reached out to touch his arm again until I do it. I move past him, then, motioning him to follow. "Let's go. It shouldn't take long to grab the food."

I bet most people have already eaten. I don't really care about the food itself much anymore, anyway, but I am interested in sitting down with him.

It didn't take long at all, though George spent most of the time between the kitchen and heading outside practically glowing with pleasure. He thought that of Cyd already, and it was nice hearing she felt the same.

"Did you have any other plans today?" he asked, holding the door open for her.

The answer George was looking (and hoping) for was 'no'.

It's a question I'd hoped he was going to ask. I didn't want to be so forward, just because I know when I do that I end up embarrassing myself. Actually, I feel like I'll probably do that anyway. Maybe I shouldn't worry.

No, definitely worrying.

"I - no, not at all," I reply, carrying my plate carefully. That's one thing I can see myself doing. Dropping it and tripping. "Why?"

If there was one thing George liked most about Cyd, it was that he found it completely easy to talk to her. She didn't scare the crap out of him the way Callie had, and she wasn't wrong like Meredith was.

"Because it'd be nice if we could hang out today. If you want to, that is, you don't have to, but I'd like that."

"Sure!" I exclaim, the pause when I realize how eager I sound. Blushing, I let out an embarrassed laugh. "I - I mean, sure, I'd like that. A lot, actually."

"Great," George said, barely able to hide his relief even if he had a whole host of questions, mainly about what to do for the day. "That's - that's great."

There were worse things he could do than do nothing with Cyd.
