I told you guys how our car got broken into and how someone tried to steal it. We figured out that we're probably going to have to get the whole steering column replaced. No idea how much that's going to cost...
But that's not all. Last night around 10 pm or so, Tim went for a jog around the block. He came back, no big deal, everything looked normal. Then around midnight, we were going to get to bed and he looked out the bathroom window. Our flood light was on...which is motion sensored. And he noticed a huge crack in the windshield of our Honda. He went out there to check it out, and right as he got on the porch, the light went off.
It usually stays on about 3-5 minutes after whoever was moving quits moving. When I went out there to look at it, it looked like someone had taken a baseball bat and hit the windshield of the car right in the center...where the rearview mirror is. And there looked like another hit just below that. The whole middle of the windshield is cracked in a bunch of big circles. I took some pictures...if I can get them uploaded, I'll post them somewhere.
So Tim called the police and decided to just do a report in the morning...cause by that time it was about 1 AM and we were ready for bed. Then he let the motion light go out and he sat there on our steps for a few minutes, just to see if he saw anyone. Not more than 3 minutes went by that a car started up from down the street and pulled into our driveway. They had their headlights on and spotted Tim and he stood up. Then the car backed out real quick and took off down the road. Tim ran out in the street to see if he could tell what kind of car it was and what the license plate was. It was an older model Honda Civic...maybe late 80's and it was goldish. But the fishy thing was, it had no plates.
After that, Tim decided to call and do the report that night. Thankfully they just did it over the phone instead of us having to wait for them to come out. After the call, Tim stayed out there at least a half hour, but that other honda didn't come back. There was a van that circled around several times, and Tim got it's plate number...but other than that, nothing else seemed strange.
Today, I went through and cleaned everything out of the car. I'd been meaning to do that since the last time it was broken into...but I guess the window smashing gave me the incentive to do it now before something else happened to it. So now everything's out. Nothing left but broken pieces of steering column on the floor, a pretty messed up steering column, a big empty hole with a few wires where the radio used to be...a broken off rearview mirror, and tiny pieces of glass in the front two seats from the windshield (Which thankfully wasn't broken all the way through).
This is really starting to get frustrating. It's just been one thing after another with that car. Failed emmissions test to renew tags, big hole in the muffler that needs to be fixed, almost stolen and in the process rendered undriveable, and now the busted windshield. We just wanted to fix it and sell it...and the Jeep and buy a new, gas-efficient car. Cause just driving that Jeep around is killing us on gas.
At the moment, things are looking pretty bleak. And guess what time it is...feast time. The time when trials come in bucketfulls. We're trying to remain positive. At least we're healthy, the house isn't falling apart. We've got food and water. What more do we need?
Tim's been selling off his cards for some extra money. He's sent out several hundreds worth and has auctions going on ebay. We'll make it. Soon as we get back from the feast, I'm going to look for a part time job. Tim works a few nights a week and still does a little bit of construction stuff which he can schedule for the days I'm home.
I'm really looking forward to the Kingdom!!
