No-Sloth Weekend

Well, o.k. -- minimal sloth weekend.

It all started with Trail Running and Disc Golf on Friday afternoon. I did take it easy all day yesterday -- I didn't leave the house once, in fact, and barely left the couch. But I was doing research for a business idea pretty much all day and actually got about 8 or 9 hours of work in, so I didn't feel too slothful. Besides, I was intentionally taking it easy on my poor body because I wanted to be rested and ready for this morning.

This morning I "competed" in my first official race! While Googling for running trails in Golden Gate Park on Friday, I discovered that there was an Xterra 5k & 10k trail run today at 9am. The 5k portion was described as a "run/walk," so I figured what the hell. I ran, and at times I walked. But mostly I ran. And it was great! I actually felt like I was competing*, sort of, and now I can't wait until I can do that (or another) 5k course without stopping to walk at all. And then on to the 10k! Oh, my final time for the 5k? 34:34.

And then, since the start/finish for the trail run was only about 200 yards from the 1st tee of the disc golf course, I planned ahead and brought my disc. I played 18 holes again, with a short lunch break before the back nine. My score improved a lot compared to my first round on Friday -- I even scored par on a few holes, and a birdie with a lucky shot on Hole 10.

What an amazing weekend you can have when you get up off your ass and go do stuff! I'm embarrassed that this should be such a revelation to me. =) Now I'm going to try and take stefaroos up on her offer of a free facial, and then head over to redstickman's BBQ.

*Actually, if I had been just 1 year older, I would have won a medal for coming in 3rd in my age group! (It was relatively small event, and it skewed young, so there were only 2 other people registered in the 40-49 age bracket, and they give prizes to the top 3 finishers in each age group.)

trail running, fun, running, disc golf
