New fic! Light in the Darkness, Metaphorically Speaking

My very first LJ post! Honestly, I am not sure if anyone follows me or is even remotely aware that I'm here, but for posterity's sake, I wanted to note that I posted the first chapter of a new fic on Ao3:
Light in the Darkness, Metaphorically Speaking
This is a weird beginning to a weird fic, for me at least -- like 10x longer than anything I've written before. Not much plot or set-up, either... I just kept reading eight-year fics (one of my favorite genres, honestly) and wondering how on earth these kids could possibly be making it through, so this was my attempt at envisioning it.
