The new year continues to be pretty normal. That's probably a good thing. For today's gratitude post on the social medias, I said I was thankful for my job, and I posted a photo of our comp copy of Doomsday with My Dog, and our work copy of Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch Aqua, and I seem to have gotten quite the reaction. Especially the mermaid one, and that part kind of surprises me, but only kind of. I mean, it's mermaids, and people love mermaids.
Mermaid Melody specifically is pretty ridiculous. We think it's ridiculous in a good way, but I have to say the original series...does have some storytelling issues. We don't mind them so much, because it's not trying to be deep or anything--it's just trying to be a cute series with mermaids, and it definitely succeeds at that. It doesn't take itself too seriously...or seriously at all...and that makes it good fun. Nevertheless, I was kind of under the impression that people didn't like it. I guess I was wrong. Anyway, if you like mermaids, go ahead and check out Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch Aqua, translated by us! Or in Japanese, or whatever language you want to read it in. We only worked on the English version. Spoiler alert: the story for this one does make more sense than the original. For whatever that's worth. XD (Despite whatever I say about it, we do love our silly little mermaid series.)
Anyway, I did not realize that this whole gratitude thing would result in me learning how to curate content so quickly. Yesterday, I posted about the Tower of Terror call bell we got at Disneyland Paris, and I can see where most people would just scroll past that. It's just a white dome with a logo on it that people may or may not recognize. On the other hand, I post a picture of manga, and all the friends we have who are into anime and manga are like, "What's that!?" I got a lot more loves for today's post than yesterday's. Will I use this knowledge for anything productive? ...Maybe someday, but not for the foreseeable future.
Today I'm thankful for surprise lessons in content curation (more because it amuses me than because I was setting out to learn about it), getting to translate a silly little mermaid series, finishing the draft we started, getting to see a Wembley episode of Fraggle Rock today, and getting a shipping confirmation for one of the reckless purchases we made at the end of last year.
