A very busy few days

We have been very busy these last few days, and it has been excessively hot, so we're pretty much melted and dead by now. Actually the weekend stuff wasn't bad, because it all took place inside air-conditioned buildings.

On Saturday, our stake had its annual service fair. I think I wrote about it last year, where a bunch of different charitable organizations have booths and you can donate or sit down and make something that will be donated. Last year, Athena and I joined the blanket tying brigade and just tied knots around the edges of large squares of fleece to make no-sew blankets. Many, many blankets were made.

This year, we did four whole different kinds of things! We each made a card to be distributed at local children's hospitals, and we did this thing...where you take a candle wick and you coil cardboard around it and then you stuff it all inside a tin (or aluminum, more likely, but I don't know how to tell the difference) can, and then I guess someone is going to pour wax over the cardboard to fill up the gaps and make a candle. They're going into survival kits to be distributed to...a group that is in need, but I'm not sure specifically why. Perhaps I'm too trusting, not asking enough questions.

We also helped tie a blanket, but the best part! was when we made chew toys for doggos. Somebody brought in a ton of old t-shirts that were then cut into strips, and we braided the strips like when you make lanyards at scout camp. Only since we were using strips of t-shirt fabric instead of plastic string, the "lanyards" were big enough for dogs to play with them. It was really cool, and a lot of fun to do.

We also spent some time with our little princess friend from a couple of weeks ago. Making a dog toy with her was an interesting endeavor. XD

After our adventures at the service fair, we had just enough time to do some grocery shopping and a liiittle bit of relaxing before Gaston called. We had called him earlier in the week to wish him a happy birthday, but he was in the middle of something and said he would call back. Three days later, he and Alice were passing through town, so they stopped by and we went to a fancy(ish) restaurant for dinner. The same restaurant we went to for our birthday in April, actually. And we ended up at the exact same table. It feels like a sign of some kind, but I couldn't really say what it's a sign of.

On Sunday, there was Singing Time, as usual. Since the Primary Program isn't too far away, Athena needed to figure out how well the kids know the songs that they'll be singing in it, so she brought our Baymax plushie to help her "diagnose" the songs. It was really cute, because after the kids sang, she would pretend to be consulting with Baymax. The surprising thing was that the kids were really engaged. They weren't even playing a game! Unless you count make-believe as a game...which it is, but the kids would have been watching the game, rather than playing it. ...Although, come to think of it, maybe they did feel like they were playing, too, because at the end, Athena told them that Baymax brought lollipops for everyone, and they all said, "Thank you, Baymax!" Achievement unlocked, I guess.

Then today, we're back to work! We just realized that, since we have friends coming to Disneyland this week, a temple trip next week, and we're leaving for Paris the week after that, we miiiiiiight be in a little bit of trouble when it comes to deadlines. Nevertheless, we chose not to work late today, because we're still under an excessive heat warning and we didn't want to overwork ourselves.

That turned out to be a good idea, because we ordered a new phone for me last week, and today I started to set it up, and only then did I realize that we had accidentally ordered it for the wrong line. So I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get Athena's phone working with her number and my phone working with my number and oh my goodness I'm just so tired.

Today I'm thankful for the fun adventures we had over the weekend, getting to spend lots and lots of time in air conditioning, the excessive heat warning being over as of about an hour ago, having my new phone working with my phone number, and getting to spend time with friends.
