The manga we've been working on this week has been kicking our butts. It's usually a fairly easy series, and it's not like this volume is especially more difficult, but it must be way more wordy or something, because for some reason it feels like it's taking a thousand times longer than it should.
...Okay, so if anything, it's probably taking two and a half times, max, longer than usual, and we're on track to finish it tomorrow, which is when it's due, so no problems there. The problem, which is not really a problem per se, is that one of publishers came along yesterday and was like, "Hey, you want to do this rush job real quick? It's two volumes." And we were like, "Absolutely!" And then we looked at our schedule and realized that we have three other books already due within a week after that deadline for those two new books.
And even that wouldn't be a problem if these books wouldn't take longer than expected, but alas, here we are. We're going to do our best and try not to complain too much, because all of this should be very helpful as far as our travel goals are concerned, so we're actually pretty happy about it. We're just a liiiittle bit worried about our ability to meet our deadlines. We're hoping we only have to work a little bit longer than usual every day for a while.
Today was a little bit extra difficult, because! it's the release date for Nintendo World Championships! We didn't get to it as soon as we'd hoped, but we did get to it, and oh man, the nostalgia. I mean, we do have access to all of these games on our Switch already, so we have always had access to the nostalgia, but I guess the new context of the "world championships" makes it even more fresh. (Is fresh an appropriate word for nostalgia? It seems a little oxymoronic, and yet...)
Anyway, it's a really neat concept, because it's like, "Back in the day, there used to be Nintendo World Championships, but you had to be able to travel to get to them, so not a lot of people got to participate." (It adds "some of you may not have been born yet..." in parentheses, which made me feel like they didn't want to admit that was possible, but I may have been projecting. XD) And now anyone with an internet connection can participate! Yay! And you get to set up a profile with old school sprite icons and stuff, so there's a sense of camaraderie with this video game, even though you're probably not going to actually talk to the people you're playing with. (Unless you're doing party mode, which we would love to try with our nephews and brothers-in-law (and sisters and nieces if they're interested, but they usually aren't).)
So yeah. It's neat. The only trouble with it is that some of the challenges are only, like, six seconds long, which is good if you only have a little bit of time. But it can get a bit tedious to do it over and over...which can also be a good thing, because then you're ready to move on with your life after only a short period of time.
Anyway, Athena's been doing really well with the Zelda challenges--whenever she did survival mode (where you play against seven other people in real time), she always finished the Zelda challenge first. The Legend of Zelda was kind of our thing when we were in elementary school--like, the boys in our class would invite her to their houses so she could beat the fifth labyrinth for them. So it's nice to know she hasn't lost her touch. (At least...two out of two times. XD)
Today I'm thankful for work not being entirely devoid of hope, getting to start a new series tomorrow (because even if we don't have time, we have to XD (we'll probably have time (to start it (finishing our quota is another matter)))), finally snapping a pic of a yawning Gliscor, managing to do really well in the Zelda challenges, and Nintendo nostalgia.
busyness,
