Soooo booooooored. Just one of those nights, am inbetween projects in WoW and not sure what to do next and I'm aaaaall alone (really need to find a guild already) and just ... blaah. And TV sucks, as evidenced by my reluctant sampling of pilots tonight since I basically had no other choice (CASTLE WHERE ARE YOU COME BACK). I had some prejudice about these shows before watching them that went about like this:
- 666 Park Avenue - Poor man's American Horror Story probably with less horror and less story.
- Chicago Fire - Grey's Anatomy with firefighters, or possibly Trauma with firefighters.
- Nashville - Smash but with country instead of Broadway?
Aaaand after watching:
666 Park Avenue: I stand by my prejudice but with the amendment that it was also a whole lot like every Evil House movie ever, especially the really cheap lowrent ones with like, Melissa George or someone in the lead. Basically: noooo thank you.
Chicago Fire: Trauma it is! Or, depending on it's longevity, maybe more along the lines of Southland but I only saw the pilot of that. Definitely less plasticky and sensationalist than Grey's atleast, and it wasn't TOO bad, but I didn't get any feels for any of the characters and their storylines seemed like the usual over-used clichés of this type of show. Pass.
Nashville: Mm yeah, basically Smash with country, but less ... horrible. Still not my thing though, most of this type of music makes my skin crawl but I quite liked the song at the end so if the show had focused mainly on those characters instead I might have been more inclined to watch?
So Nashville and Chicago Fire are in the "maybe, someday, if I hear reallyreallyreally good things about it" pile, and 666 Park Avenue is in the "oh this isn't cancelled yet?" pile. Oh, I also attempted to watch Vegas and, as I probably should have expected, made it about 2 minutes in before going "nope, nope, not my jam, BYE". This means any remaining hope for the fall season is resting on the shoulders of Last Resort now, which I have yet to see any of but it's one of the few shows that looked even remotely promising from the trailers as far as I can remember. If that sucks too then it's nothing until midseason, I think, and that would be supremely depressing.
Summing up this years crop of new shows:
666 Park Ave: Pass
The Neighbors: Not even watching the pilot
Nashville: Pass
Elementary: Keeper
Made in Jersey: First Cancellation winner!
Partners: Pass
Vegas: Pass (not even watching more than 2 minutes of the pilot)
Ben and Kate: Pass
The Mindy Project: Keeping in hopes of improvement
The Mob Doctor: Not even watching the pilot
Animal Practice: Cancelled
Chicago Fire: Pass
Go On: Keeper
Guys With Kids: Pass
Revolution: Keeping in hopes of improvement
The New Normal: Not even watching the pilot
Arrow: Keeping for the archery mainly
Beauty & the Beast: Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Emily Owens, MD: Pass
That ... is pretty depressing, but not as bad as I felt like it was before I made the list? Atleast there's some keepers there, underwhelming though they might be - I just wish there were more since I've been doing a LOT of dumping of older shows lately. :/ But yeah, officially declaring Fall Season 2012 a bust, methinks. Is it midseason yet?
