Finally got started on my 3rd attempt (or 4th? IDK, it's been a lot of tries) at watching Friday Night Lights, since that seems to be just about the last non-AMC/HBO-show that everyone loves and I don't already watch. Not 100% on the names yet, I know Matt and the Coaches and Tim and Lyla but I don't know Julie or Landry. (Julie, is that the Coaches' daugther maybe?) Haven't really placed my ship-chips yet, but Tim/Lyla is looking like a good bet. Atleast if Lyla gets a bit more Veronica Mars and a little less Veronica Mars-pre s1, but that's looking promising.
Good to hear, good to hear. I always prioritize characters over the themey plot-stuff, whether it's dramas or procedurals or comedies, it's just so much worse when it's *football* rather than crime or something else atleast mildly interesting.
Yeah I've been mostly holding out for that reason too, cannot STAND sports in general and football in particular. Atleast I sort of know the rules in most other sports, even had a phase of really digging hockey in gradeschool (I blame the Mighty Ducks!) and basketball (Spacejam!). But yeah, I do like rooting for stuff, if only they can manage to make me CARE enough. Which I guess brings us right back around to characters > plot, because if I care about the characters then it doesn't matter if they're playing football or paintball or doing debates.
