...marked two months in my new home.

I think it's finally really starting to settle in that this is my place. I've still got a basement with boxes to sort (mostly from my grandfather's home) and some things in storage because, well, I'm a busy woman! It's nice to go through them, bit by bit, to make choices in an unhurried way. Extra nice in that I've really divested myself of lots of stuff over the past couple of years and, so, am encountering little that makes me wonder what the heck I was thinking when I packed it.

This morning I am going to go to Prairie Lane and pick up my standing mirror, which is ready, and select the stain for the dining room chairs. In purchasing this house, I finally have a place for the gorgeous rope-legged table that belonged to my great-grandmother (or her mother?). It's cherry and just stunning. Simple and graceful, clearly hand-made. It has two fold-down leaves and is a square when fully set up.

Of all of the pieces I own, this one has special meaning. I love dining tables because of the history soaked into their very grain. The countless conversations and dreams shared during thousands of meals. The thoughts, feelings, and energetic impressions of each person who has spent time at the table. Hands have rested, scrubbed, polished, and, gesticulated on it's smooth surface. Hearts have smiled, pondered, considered earnestly, and despaired above it. You get the picture.

My original intention was to carry it to PL in order to select a matching stain for the chairs. But I think it will be nigh upon impossible to come up with an exact match, especially because the newer cherry of the chairs will continue to darken over time. I think Washington Cherry will be too dark and I'll opt for something just a bit lighter than that. The natural patina on the table is dark, but still allows the grain to be seen easily. I may select a darker color for the chairs, so that the table takes center stage. It would look weird if the chairs were lighter than the table, I think. I'm over-analyzing this. :)

Then, it's off to watch football, meet up with LS, craft the rest of the weekend with the delicious luxury of relaxed selection.

And so, I should be off!
