Scenty Claus Is Coming To Town

Garland and ornaments have popped up at work over the last few days, and the bug has taken hold of me as well. I thought I might like to have a little personalized tree at my desk or something, but I knew that something a little more permanent might be nice as well. I often visit my friends Ben & Tina in Colorado for Christmas and we have a tradition (rather, they let me participate in their tradition) of painting wooden ornaments. It would be a safe bet to guess that I invariably paint some kind of tartan.

I left work and started pedaling toward the T-Mobile store to see if they have a working version of the G1 handset, but within a few blocks I decide to hit up the hobby store: an idea was starting to form and I wanted to see how far it would go. It took some wandering and investigating both nooks and crannies but I found everything I was looking for to make a little ornament of my own.

I knew that the foundation of my Christmas Tree ornament would have to be a car air freshener - that was obvious - but try as I might I couldn't find a Hunter Green pine-scented tree. I considered coconut but was worried I'd get sick of the smell after a day or so. I ended up choosing Sweet Pear, the color is greenish and it manages to smell almost wintry...you have to kind of cock your head to one side and squint your nostrils but it works.

It was tough finding a set of foam stickers that had the shapes I wanted and weren't all glittery, but I prevailed. The air fresheners came in a pack of three but there was only one star, so I tried to make two more out of the spare block of red foam... /fail.

I also bought a tiny flower pot and wooden dowel to fashion a trunk and pot my little tree, but I don't have any epoxy or superglue lying about so that'll have to wait.

I gave the lesser two to my roommates - I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised when both of them asked me if I was trying to tell them something. C'mon guys, it's just a Trailer Park Christmas Tree, get over it!

And, yes, I'm really very anxious to hear what Rich Miner has to say this week.
