SPN 5x13

One point I have to get out of the way: no, I don't like what they did with Anna, after the groundwork they put down for her in S4. (Take your Fatal Attraction references and suck it, show). At least they addressed that Castiel betrayed her and I really liked that he told her what he did was a mistake, but I think the exploration of his culpability there, and Anna's characterization, got short shrift (shock, surprise) and shouldn't Dean have been a little more annoyed at Castiel about that? Because he did like Anna. Since it did get an airing, that does make me think we are going to get some kind of a reckoning about the panic room door. That's all I have to say on Anna. Lather, rinse, repeat. The show is good at certain things, and not others (and the show is actually good at creating female characters and making them fairly awesome; but the landings are awful).

Now for the wacky capslocking of glee part. This is sort of out of order and disjointed. It's been a looooong week. Also I've forgotten how to do this. :p

Mary confuses the heck out of me (because I've resigned myself to certain things about my show) but I'll take what I can get. HI MARY HI HI HI. ♥

And Castiel being kind of a creepy badass, ruthless as Anna in his own way. He's changed, but he's still an angel. This is the guy who wanted to stab the adorable little anti-Christ. BAMFy one minute, and still kind of a dick, except also he won't let Anna kill Sam because Sam's his friend. *turns into shmoopy pile of mush* Then there's limp and bleeding Castiel and what? WHAT is this on my tv screen with Dean RUNNING OVER FRANTICALLY and Sam grabbing at Castiel (more on that at the end).

Dean booked the honeymoon suite for Castiel. Heeee. Oh, hush. You were thinking it too.

John! John and Sam! ♥ That scene between them. I don't even. Sam's faaaaaace, tearing up and John's unknowing condemning of himself and Sam telling John he understands. That was every fandom argument ever about John, bwaha. My heart was in my throat and yes, I started crying. Something before that probably made me tear up but I can't remember now what it was, I'm a little brain fried. SAM! ♥

Sam did the angel banishment sigil thingie! \o/

(*busy doodling little hearts all over all the Winchesters*)

As if that wasn't enough, then there's Mary and Dean and when she thinks she raised her kids to be hunters and OMG OMG MARY. And yes, more crying was had. ETA: and the Hey, Jude thing. Another song ruined (I mean that in a good way) by SPN.

Sam and Dean seemed like two people who knew they were trapped together in the worse mess imaginable but if they had to be stuck with someone, they're glad it's each other, as opposed to the way they've been seeming, which is that the second the horrible mess is over they'll never want to talk to each other again.

And then there was lots of dying and SAM IS DEAD AND THEN MICHAEL POSSESSES JOHN AND WTF OMG SHOW OMG OMG MICHAEL AND DEAN AND MICHAEL IS TEMPORARILY JOHN AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS, and the vessel bloodline goes from John to his sons (no wonder Castiel thought Dean might be able to hear and see his true visage safely; maybe it only works with archangels? I've been convinced for a while Sam and Dean are of a vessel bloodline but for some reason assumed it'd be Mary's)

Dean! Sam's lying there dead on the floor and...Dean says "FIX HIM" immediately, when he wouldn't give in to Zachariah no matter what. It makes me feel all shmoopy and at the same time terrified for them, if Dean might say yes, and why Sam might say yes. Dean seems tired there and willing to let Michael fix things, fix Sam, but still with bravado and declarations of free will; he'll do what he chooses with his "insignificant life." OH DEAN.

Plus then there was more bonus Dean and Sam holding up slumpy Castiel and I'm just kind of blinking here because I'm sure you're all shocked to hear this but I have a thing about Sam and Dean and Castiel as this weird family unit. I have this theory, having Castiel to look after softens whatever distance is between Dean and Sam, he takes attention off their issues with each other, gives them someone to look after besides themselves and just each other. Although John and Mary served that function most during the episode, but Castiel does too. Castiel may be thousands of years old, but he's physically smaller than they are, and he doesn't look that much older than Dean, and he's fairly hapless in the human world, and he keeps going limp. *pets him*

Wait...wait, this feeling, it's vaguely familiar...HOLY CRAP IT'S SQUEE FOR SUPERNATURAL. I'M ALL CONFUSED (and still feeling all tentative about it). But mostly ♥ ♥ ♥

I don't get the coda, with the tsotchke angel. I have two reading and given it's SPN I'm more inclined to go with my second one. 1. Mary remembered nothing; but maybe she has buried memories, sort of half-heard Michael and Dean talking while she as unconscious, or half-remembered Dean telling her another angel was helping him (and I am a sucker for that circularity that the angels watching over Dean was Mary referring to Castiel without her knowing that). 2. More likely, it has a darker reading that Mary was instinctually drawn to the angel figurine without knowing why, and the irony that she views this as benevolent but...it's really not.

I have to rewatch this 3 or 4 times.
