Any Dream Will Do....

A couple of months ago my sister turned on BBC America and started watching "Any Dream Will Do," quite possibly for no other reason than John Barrowman.  Then, I started watching it with her also because of the quality amount of John Barrowman.

Now, I actually enjoy musicals and singing and all the good stuff, but I've never been much of a fan of American Idol.  I've watched two episodes of AI, both of which during finals my last semester of law school when my study partner forced me to sit through it.  Honestly?  It wasn't the most painful experience of my life, and I can understand how it might appeal to a lot of people.  But, it didn't capture my interest to the point that I wanted to, you know, vote.  I enjoy watching people who are talented and charismatic, but I couldn't see myself making an effort to watch it on my own.

ADWD?  That was a *completely* different experience.  I chose my leading man from the first episode I watched (it was even during one of those group performances) and said to my sister, "That's who I want to win.  He is a perfect Joseph."  Now, this was early-ish in the competition, and he wasn't the front runner at that point, but he had *it.*

So, my sister and I kept watching ADWD and would critique the performances of each Joseph as we watched.  Giggled at the pretty boys and squeed when they did something amusing in their performances.  We commented on how each performer grew from week to week and came up with nicknames and lamented that we couldn't vote for any of them.  We pointed out that certain performers just didn't hold our attention the way others did, and that it was amazing just how quickly your opinion could change from one week to another by adding a twirl to your routine.  (Just go with it.)

Knowing that this show aired two years ago, I avoided all things Joseph-related on the internet so I wouldn't spoil myself.  Last night, I had absolutely no idea who was going to win.  All I knew was that I could not ever remember being this excited to find out who won a reality show.  (The thing is, I actually watch a LOT of reality show competitions with The Fiance.  He enjoys really AWFUL stuff on VH1 (as well as some decent stuff too - The Amazing Race, for example -- and I can't help but watch along with him.)

As it turned out?  My horse, my front runner, my Joseph. Lee Mead, was the winner.   Now?  I want to giggle and squee and use my non-existent ADWD and Lee Mead icons and watch YouTube videos and buy his albums.

That was fun.
