Fun With Telling People Who They Really Are

Mar 30, 2008 21:03

It's good to know that all the beautiful people are polyfi. There's just something about being open to other relationships that makes a person - what am I saying, we're talking about women here - that makes a girl uglier ( Read more... )

That post belongs here. I've met most of those types, and can put LJ handles to most of them.

I kinda had the same thought. My initial reaction was "Did someone post to the wrong comm?" :-)

So that was written by a Fanatic, obviously, who thinks they're a different category. ;)

And I love people who think playing the satire card means they can say whatever the hell they want.

Right:

misogyny, expressed literally: not okay
misogyny, expressed through satire: not only okay, but edgy and cool, and if you don't think so, you must have NO SENSE OF HUMOR

Satire is a magical box into which you can put any opinions, no matter how heinous, inside and they come out all sparkly and fluffy-bunny-covered.

I might have missed it in my skim, but what's misogynistic about it? He ridicules men as well as women. As such, he may be misanthropic, (assuming he wasn't just trying and [succeeding/failing, make your own choice] to be funny) but throwing about the misogynistic label is a bit much.

Admittedly, I'm not hugely involved in the giant poly social scene, but I've seen some of those kinds of people in other sociosexual contexts. Admittedly, they are gross generalizations, but it wasn't supposed to be a scientific treatise on the subject, just an object of humor. As with most humor, not everyone finds the same things funny, nor should they.

I'm not quite sure what's offensive or snarkworthy about it, but you seem to be rather irked. Care to share the reason??

Humor is not usually a thinly veiled rant about "why can't everyone be just like me?" This guy's tirade was.

How so? Does he say that people should be like him? He says that he doesn't want to be involved with the scene as he sees it, so he's personally a Snob/Picky combo, and he says so in the comments. So where do you get that he wants everyone to be like him?

It's not hard to read between the vines and notice the sour grapes.
