Today, I decided to take my two little dogs to the beach. Emma is leash aggressive and Teenie is just aggressive in general. This is easily handled, no? So, we get down on the beach and it's basically deserted. I take Emma's leash off and attach it to Teenie's, to give her more room to run. We're having a lovely time, but the beach starts to get crowded, so I call Emma (who has rock solid recall) and re-leash her. We're still having fun. Did I mention that I'm not wearing clothing conducive to carrying muddy dogs? I'm wearing khaki capris and a pretty, frilly, low cut shirt.... Anyhow, this couple has three rough collies off lead. The dogs are playing nicely and we walk past probably 500 feet across the beach. Two of the dogs decide to be friendly and run over to play. I drop my keys, ball, treats, and poop to pick up Teenie (who, as we remember, is very dog aggressive) and leave Emma (who is leash aggressive) on the ground to fend for herself. She'll chase the dogs off without starting an actual fight... So the couple begins to call the dogs, yelling, "Heel, come, heel, get over here, STOP THAT NOW, HEEL!!!!" getting more and more frantic. The dogs finally relent and come, and they scream what horrible dogs they are, put on choke chains, and snap their leads HARD multiple times, thus reinforcing NOT coming when called. We lived. They apologized.
I was watchful after this, and saw two more dogs running wildly loose. They were ignoring us, so I was ok with that.... Then, their owner comes towards us and says hello. I say hello back, being the wonderfully polite person that I am. He then sticks his hand in my dogs' faces. Did I mention that Teenie HATES men and Emma is leash aggressive? I told him they were mean (as Teenie barked and growled viciously) and he LAUGHED!!!!!!!!!! I give up.
That decidedly lacks snark. Oh, well.
