Chapter 4) (Chapter 5) (
Epilogue)
“Jinki, where are you taking me?”
“To Seoul”
“And you’ll take me walking to Seoul?”
“Yes, so walk faster”
“Could you take off the blindfold?” I requested “It’s really annoying”
“Just wait a little more” I heard Jinki’s voice at my back “We’re almost there”
I sighed and let him guide me to wherever we were going.
Jinki had acted weird since the morning. When we were getting ready to continue our trip, he seemed nervous. Jinki insisted on buying the morning newspaper before leaving and when we stopped to eat something around noon, he barely looked at me.
As soon as we came back to the hostel, Jinki made me change my clothes quickly and dragged me into the car again. The blindfold appeared in my eyes seconds after he started the car.
“Promise me you won’t take it out until I tell you so” he said into my ear.
And I didn’t, neither when Jinki made me get out of the car nor when he made me climb stairs (despite I almost fall because he didn’t warned me). I had to admit that I was a little disappointed; I thought he would do something because of my birthday but until now he hadn’t said a word about it. But since this was probably my birthday surprise, I tried to not complain. I just wanted to know where the hell he was taking me to.
This place where we were at was slightly different from the rest of the town. This town wasn’t bigger than the others, yet it was closer to Seoul. It was a silent place dedicated mostly to farming activities, so it wasn’t hard to see people quickly walking down the street. No one had time to chat.
But this part was too noisy; in fact it didn’t feel like the town anymore. There was some kind of metallic sounds, something that seemed to be music and people talking loudly, too high to that small town. The ground felt different too. It was cobblestone instead of soil.
“Okay, just stand there” Jinki said letting go my hand.
“Jinki, where are we? Are we still in the town?”
“You will find it out now” his voice was now in front of me “Ready?”
“I guess so”
“Then take it off”
When I did it thousands of tiny lights sparkled right in front of my eyes. Jinki looked at me expectant as I read the huge bright signal.
“A festival?”
“The annual carnival happened to start today, so I though you would like to come as a birthday present” Jinki explained. I smiled and kissed his cheek.
“What are we waiting for?” I said, pulling his hand “Hurry up!”
Jinki smiled and followed me. We tried almost all the games, Jinki turned to be pretty good on those which involved throwing a ball to/through something and I ended having more stuffed animals than I could imagine.
By the end of the day all the toys and our clothes were on the back seat as we headed to Seoul
“Did you have fun?” Jinki asked smiling. I nodded, closing my eyes.
“But I want a cake” I mumbled, sleepy “There’s no party without a cake”
“Right” Jinki agreed “I’ll buy you one in the morning”
And that was the last time we stopped for the next day. He bought the cake, but also we bought food supplies. I wasn’t sure why but I felt that Jinki was trying to hurry.
There wasn’t anything unusual on Jinki’s behavior but he seemed determined to get to Seoul as soon as possible.
“Are you okay?” I asked him the next day.
“Yeah. Why?” Jinki asked, confused. I took a deep breath.
“Well, your feet is stuck on the accelerator”
“Too fast?” Jinki seemed concerned. I nodded and he slowed down
“Something is bothering you” I noted. Jinki flinched.
“It’s not that it’s bothering me” Jinki said reticent. I looked at him, waiting for him to continue “It’s just that when I asked you to come with me I didn’t think that you would have someone waiting for you and I’m wondering...”
“If this is going to affect us” Jinki nodded.
“I… I’ll understand if you want to stay with your brother when we arrive there but Key and I would be happy to have you at home with us” Jinki spoke so fast that it took me to understand at first.
“Jinki… I…”
“I know it’s not an easy choice” he interrupted me, looking briefly at me “Just, think about it”
I nodded, unable to say anything more. Minho hyung obviously would insist that I stay with him, but living with Key and Jinki was too tempting. Suddenly something came to my mind.
“Jinki, have you talked with Key hyung?” I asked. Jinki shook his head
“Why?”
“Key said he would meet us at Seoul when he finished his work” I replied.
“Yes, he told…” Jinki looked gaped at me when he realized. Immediately he parked the car on the side of the road and took out his phone.
“Well, it isn’t too serious” he said dialing a number “He just called a couple of times yesterday”
Key answered almost immediately.
“Oh, finally” I heard the relief in Key’s voice “I need to know where you are. I’m at the Hill Hotel and…”
“Well, the thing is that we aren’t in Seoul yet” Jinki said, nervous.
“What? Why?” Key’s voice began to fill with panic “Are you okay?”
“We are fine, relax” Jinki tried to not sigh
“But you leave two days before me, why aren’t you here yet?”
Jinki looked at me askance.
“Well…”
“Oh no. Jinki please tell me you didn’t…”
“I…”
“I told you to keep your hands off of him” Key shouted “You were supposed to bring him to Seoul and only that”
“But you told me to tell him what I feel for him” Jinki said a little astonished and I couldn’t help but blush.
“I didn’t mean that you run away” Key sounded tired “Besides, I though Taemin wanted to arrive to Seoul as soon as possible”
“Well, I kind of persuaded him” he said, smiling “But now we’re heading to Seoul”
“Are you still coming?” Key asked, surprised
“We will be there by the afternoon” Jinki assured him. Key sighed, tiredly and upset.
“Then I’ll see you here”
Jinki snorted when he hung.
“I thought he would be angrier” he said, turning on the car.
“I guess Key knew it was matter of time” I answered chuckling. Jinki smiled at me “Jinki… about what you said to Key hyung…”
“What?”
“You said he suggested you tell me what you felt for me”
“Yes, he did” Jinki nodded “What about it?”
“Well… you haven’t”
“No?” Jinki frowned, confused.
“You said you have fallen for me”
“And it isn’t the same?” Jinki seemed amused. I smiled, blushing lightly.
“I want to hear you say you love me” I said quietly.
Jinki looked at me, smirking.
“I love you” he said "And no matter what, I always will"
We spent the last few miles that separated us from Seoul hand in hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------
“You better not do it again” Key scolded us when we arrived to the hotel.
“Oh, please” Jinki said, rolling his eyes “You weren’t concerned yesterday”
“I was” Key said folding his arms “I didn’t want to imagine what you have done to Taeminnie”
“I didn’t do anything he didn’t want” Jinki said defensively. Key laughed slightly ashamed while I hit Jinki’s arm.
“Then Taemin will sleep with me” Key concluded pushing Jinki outside the room.
“Eh, why?” Jinki’s confused face made me laugh.
“Your room is next. Goodnight Jinki” then Key shut the door in his face.
“Well, start talking” Key said once we were alone.
------------------------------------------------------------------
There was an unusual silence in the car. Everyone seemed to have something to think about, and except for the looks Key threw at us from time to time, nobody dared to move.
“I believe that it’s here” I told Jinki, pointing to a white-fronted house. Jinki nodded, trying to appear normal, but I could notice the pain in his eyes.
We got out of the car slowly. I was less than two meters to achieve my goal.
“Taemin, are you alright?” Key asked. Just then I noticed that I had frozen. When that door opened, everything would change, everything would be over. I would have to leave Jinki.
“I can’t” I mumbled.
“Taemin?” Jinki asked confused. I looked into his eyes.
“I don’t want to leave you”
“Taemin, you said you need to talk to your brother” Key remembered me.
“They’ll make me stay” I said.
“Maybe it’s better that way” Jinki said with a sad look in his face
“But you said…”
“I was being selfish” he tried to explain me “What I want may not be what it’s better for you”
“Oh please” I told him “Like you care”
“I do care” Jinki said “That’s why I can’t keep you apart from them, they’re your family”
“I know, but…”
“Staying doesn’t mean that we will be apart forever” Key said smiling tenderly. I took a deep breath and nodded slighty. Jinki approached to me, passing his arm around my waist.
“Staying doesn’t mean that I’ll stop loving you” Jinki whispered at my ear “Now, go”
Trembling a little, I got close to the door and knocked it firmly. A couple of minutes later, the door got open, and Minho started face appeared in front of me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Minho seemed not to believe what he was seeing. It took him some deep breaths to be able to talk.
“Taemin?” Minho asked with shivering voice as he took me by the shoulders “Are you okay?”
“Yes” I said smiling. Minho hugged me as if life depended on it.
“You got us worried sick” he said with broken voice “Your father hung up the phone when I called and I’ve been trying to find you anywhere. Dad called the police but they said they couldn’t…”
“Minho hyung, please calm” but he wasn’t listening to me. Minho just had discovered Jinki and Key behind us.
“Who are they?” Minho asked, confused
“Well, I kind of got lost on the way and they helped me” I said sheepishly. Minho looked at them, frowning slightly, and then sighed.
“I believe we should end this conversation inside” he said, stepping aside to let us in.
