A/N: In a comment on walkerbaby’s fic His Irrational Fearilovedoyle said  “you've made me want a ficlet where Sam makes a fool of himself by revealing his arachnaphobia to Gene at work”. I’d promised myself a day of being sensible today and tackling various RL issues, so obviously I had to respond to this instead.

Arachnophobia

Tyler was acting very strange this morning, Gene decided.

Normally the thought of doing a little collating would bring on that involuntary flicker of the eyelids, the sharp intake of breath, and the smile so satisfied you almost checked his trousers for come stains.

Not today, apparently.

Yes, the involuntary flicker, yes yes the sharp intake of breath, but today no satisfied smile, just a widening of the eyes, quickly controlled, and was that fear at the corners of the perfect lips?

“Something wrong, Tyler? Only I thought you’d be in there by now, humping files about, rubbing dust off folders, getting the index nailed.”

“Want you to come with me”

“What?”

“Want you to come with me”

“Would love to, Sam. Been a while since we did some filing together. I could just go for a bit of discussing what order things should go in, pushing things about until they fit properly. Not today though, Gladys. Meeting Jackie Queen for lunch.”

“Bring her too.”

“I thought you just said...”

“Bring her too.”

“I didn’t know you went for the angular Scottish type, Tyler. I thought soft and round was more your style in women. Strong, though, I’ll give you that. Not many women can hold down the Ge... I didn’t say that, OK? I did not say that.”

“Is she scared of spiders?”

“What?”

“Is she scared of spiders?”

“Shouldn’t think so, Gladys, no. Why, are you?”
