I LOVE that your daughter is relatively unaware of the fame around her.
On the fire front, I was in Mammoth and drove to Redlands last Friday...dropping into the smoke through the Cajon Pass was amazing...and when I woke up Saturday in Redlands there was tons of ash everywhere.
I live in Long Beach, you know, and for the whole week of the fires it seemed so "pressurized" -- which the LA Times eventually ran a story that said in fire situations all the pressure builds up in Long Beach...so while we didn't have the danger that you faced, it was like the moon was wierd...
Been a long time! Good to know you're still out there, safe and well.
The extensive coverage of the fire's destruction was an eye-opener to the strength and determination of all those involved. To lose everything like you did is sheer tragedy -- but to go through it twice, as so many of your fellow Californians already have, is simply beyond comprehnsion. Takes a hell of a strong spirit to keep bootstrapping without breaking down and giving up...and I admire that fortitude.
And thanks for sharing your daughter's New York (mis)adventure! *smile*
It's one of the "what else are ya going to do but play the cards your dealt" things. I'd like to have just covered my head and done nothing but it didn't seem to the the way to go.
